The Golf GTE
Double the driving pleasure.
The Golf GTE.
Driving pleasure as standard: the maximum output of the Golf GTE is 180 kW (245 PS). This impressive value is achieved thanks to the model’s efficient plug-in hybrid technology.
The Golf GTE has many highlights. Here are three of them at a glance:
Technology
Plug-in hybrid technology 180 kW (245 PS).
Performance is good, efficiency is better.
Exterior
Offering you a sporty, elegant appearance.
Agility and aerodynamics – the Golf GTE has not just internalised these values, it also wears them on its sleeve. For instance, they are clearly demonstrated by the blue trim strip that stretches across the entire front from the Volkswagen badge to the dynamic design of the LED Plus headlights. As a GTE, it doesn’t have to hide its tailpipes away, though behind the chrome-plated diffuser is still a good position. That’s because, when it’s combined with the striking LED tail light clusters and roof spoiler, it gives the entire rear an extra bold impact.
The highlight in your Golf GTE: IQ.LIGHT
The Golf GTE is already fitted with visibly dynamic LED Plus headlights as standard that stretch all the way round to the side wings, while slim LED tail light clusters dominate at the rear. You also have the option of equipping your Golf GTE with IQ.LIGHT headlights. In this case, extra powerful LED matrix headlights fitted with Dynamic Light Assist main-beam control light up the road. The package also includes innovative dynamic turn signals that use an animated strip of lights to show which way you are turning.
Marathon runner or sprinter? The range of wheels offers you both.
Understatement or show – which do you prefer? With the wheels for the Golf GTE, you can enhance your personal style – and arrive looking great.
Genuine highlights in bad weather
Fog, heavy snowfall or rain? Additional light is provided by the optional LED fog lights in a new five-honeycomb design which are integrated into the bumper. Turn them on quickly and the world will look pretty different. And your Golf GTE will look even more striking.
It likes you. And you like how easy it is to find.
The exterior background lighting of your Golf GTE welcomes you before you’ve even climbed aboard: Operate your remote control key or, if you’ve opted for the optional Keyless Access with Safelock, approach the vehicle and the headlights and tail lights will light up. The door handle recesses and radiator grille will also light up and your Golf GTE will welcome you with light projected out of the exterior mirrors onto the floor.

Technology
Your Golf GTE features power and efficiency
The powerful hybrid drive in the Golf GTE is made up of an almost silent electric motor with seamless power transmission and an innovative 1.4 l TSI direct injection petrol engine with 110 kW (150 PS), which generates an incredibly dynamic drive with low consumption. When combined, the motor and engine accelerate the Golf GTE from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds – and up to a temporary top speed of 225 km/h. While doing so, they deliver power of up to 180 kW (245 PS) and generate a formidable torque of up to 400 Nm. In addition to the three intuitive hybrid operating modes, the pure electric e-mode is ideal for urban centres – and can be used for distances of up to 62 km (WLTP). This means: You can drive with electricity in the city, use both power units when overtaking on country roads, and the TSI engine then increases the range on long trips. Once you get back home again, you can recharge the electric motor’s battery in no more than 5 hours (at 2.3 kW) using a normal socket. If using an optional wall box or a public charging station, including the optional mode 3 type 2 charging cable, the battery can be fully charged in around 3 hours 40 minutes (at 3.6 kW).
You will get further than you think with one battery charge
Why fuel with petrol when electricity is cheaper? With the plug-in hybrid Golf GTE, you can charge the battery for your electric motor easily using a normal domestic socket. After around 5 hours at 2.3 kW, the liquid-cooled lithium-ion rechargeable battery is fully charged and gives you a maximum fully electric range of up to 62 kilometres as per WLTP. If using an optional wall box or a public charging station, including the optional mode 3 type 2 charging cable, the battery can be fully charged in around 3 hours 40 minutes (at 3.6 kW).
The “boost” for a package of power
Full power: When using the Boost function, the electric motor works in conjunction with the TSI direct injection petrol engine. This means that the power from both drive units is consolidated and you have short-term access to extra torque. The function can be selected in the Hybrid/Sport mode.
No more gear changes, but no less fun
The DSG dual clutch gearbox with its brand new smaller selector lever guarantees uninterrupted driving pleasure. That’s because you can change seamlessly between the gears and even reduce your fuel consumption. Pressing on the selector lever enables you to easily select your chosen driving mode, which is then activated via the electrically connected shift-by-wire gearbox. Particularly handy in a traffic jam: When combined with the optional Travel Assist feature, the system can help you to pull away and brake.
So you can enjoy curves even more
Who would have thought that a little phrase like “electronic differential lock XDS+” could bring such a broad smile to your face? This is precisely what happens in the Golf GTE. That’s because the standard XDS+ delivers more traction, which helps you to feel safe when cornering. For example, the precise application of pressure to one side results in sportier, faster and more accurate cornering, so it comes as no surprise that you feel yourself start to smile when you spot a curve ahead.
Interior
Outside: Fast-paced.
Inside: Chilled out.
All of the components inside the Golf GTE are carefully coordinated with each other to give the vehicle its distinctively sporty look. This starts with the stainless steel pedals and extends to the decorative trims and hallmark stitching all the way to the black headliner. The LED background lighting adds accents of light in all the right places. And you’ll also notice straight away that the digital future has arrived in the cockpit. These features are dominated by high-resolution displays and the majority of functions, like the radio, air conditioning system and lighting, can be operated using touch-sensitive surfaces and sliders.
Everything adapts to you
When combined with the optional Discover Pro radio navigation system, the Digital Cockpit Pro can be upgraded to the Innovision Cockpit. This means that there are two displays of 25.4 cm (10 inches) and 26 cm (10.25 inches). The resulting display landscape not only contains classic content like the rev counter, speedometer and mileage counter, but also other useful data in an even clearer and more detailed display. You can even set up favourite functions on the home screen, just like the way you would configure your smartphone.
The Golf GTE is equipped with the Digital Cockpit Pro as standard.
Sit back and relax
The GTE look is visible in every corner of the interior. While the premium sport seats in the front are covered in durable fabric in Scale Paper design, the hallmark blue accents of the GTE design are not only visible on the leather steering wheel but also on the textile floor mats that come in a complementary colour scheme.
Fancy an extra dose of elegance? The optional high-quality Vienna leather equipment is smooth, creating a chic, premium feel. The black perforated natural material covers the central seat panels and inner seat bolsters on the front premium sport seats.
A touch more intuitive
The classic function knobs in the cockpit have largely made way for touch-sensitive surfaces in the new Golf GTE. This allows you to control the Climatronic, for example, simply and intuitively using buttons and sliders. Even the leather multifunction sports steering wheel with touch control can be operated with a simple tap of the finger. In combination with the intelligent menu navigation you have access to lots of functions. Haptic feedback through gentle vibration confirms every entry.
Technology that enables you to look ahead
Being able to check all important information while also keeping an eye on the road: this is the main advantage of the optional head-up display in your GTE. Part of the windscreen becomes a projection area that can display your speed, messages from your driver assist systems or navigation instructions. The projection itself is still clearly legible, even when light is shining directly onto the windscreen. And you can switch off the display at any time if you no longer need it.
